Air Filter Tips (REDONE)

You should replace your air filter yearly. If you drive on a lot of gravel roads or dirty roads you should do it about every six months. That includes a lot of stop and go driving. Air filters a fairly easy to replace so you could do it yourself and save $5-$20 service charge.

What happens if you don’t change it? If your air filter gets too dirty or clogged, your engine won't be able to suck enough air into the combustion chambers. The engine will then run rich (i.e., too much gas and not enough air). When this happens, your car will lose power and run roughly. Your Check Engine light also may come on.

If you really neglect the air filter for a long time, your car may stop running altogether. While permanent damage is unlikely, it is possible. If an air filter were sufficiently dirty and damaged, it could allow harmful, abrasive contaminants into the combustion chamber.
There should only be a few bolts , screws , or clips holding it on.

Cars are confusing. I mean I get what your talking about but I have not idea how to do any of that mechanical work and such.

Its pretty easy if you look under the hood and then at the manual it should tell you where everything is.

Why not add some photos to help visualize what the topic is and where they are located and how to work with them?

That's a good tip. I think too many people are afraid to tackle some very basic car repairs like this for fear that they'll damage their car somehow.

I like the intent of your blog. I can tell this is a topic that you are interested in and know a lot about. I'm a putz as far as cars are concerned, so I'm sure I'll learn a few things.

Changing an air filter is a pretty easy task. Even for those who are mechanically challenged, the savings of up to 20 dollars would be worth doing it yourself.

Just think what you could spend that saved money on.
